An Introduction

I am choosing to write this little blog to document for myself, and just possibly for others, the adventures and pleasures I'm having with what I refer to as "My Chemistry Set."  What started as a simple plan to make some bath bombs for friends for Christmas gifts quickly escalated from a meandering Pinterest search to a budding fascination with the chemistry behind how my favorite bath products work.

My internet meanderings led me to a site that many others have turned to -- Point of Interest!  And Susan convinced me, like she has a lot of people, that I could do it.  I had been a little dubious about some of the "all natural" recipes that I had found on Pinterest -- some of them looked lumpy or greasy even in the prettiest pictures, and I wanted to give it as gifts, not keep it in my refrigerator!  But Susan made it clear that while there were rules and processes, the outcome could be both predictable and beautiful and that I could make things that were just as nice as what I could buy.  And so I did it -- I ordered a few specialty ingredients along with the supplies for my bath bombs, and I made my very first lotion.

Here it is! I made a foot cream because I figured if it wasn't that great... well, I'd still use it on my feet. And it worked. Every bit of it worked just as it should and when I added the oil to the water and it swirled up white I was giggling like a madman.... and hooked.

On a side note, I am terrible at making bath bombs. I swear they are the hardest dang things to get to turn out pretty. Other things are so much more impressive and less stressful, at least for me.

I have been playing with my growing pile of ingredients -- which I call my chemistry set -- ever since and I though it would be a good idea to keep track of my progress and maybe share it with others going through a similar process.

I'm very new at this, so please correct me if I give false information or am going about things all wrong.  Feel free to ask me questions about what I'm doing... though I certainly don't promise to know the answer.  And please feel free to add links or tips or comments.
